Crashes and sudden exits

Most crashes come from extension conflicts, graphics drivers or a damaged profile — work through them in order.

Crashes usually follow a pattern: only on one page, right at startup, or after a while. Each pattern has a different cause, so identify which one you have first.

Crashes on one specific page

Typically a page script or video decoding issue. Try switching engine, disabling hardware acceleration, or turning off ad blocking on that page.

  • Switch engine and retry
  • Disable hardware acceleration (Settings → System)
  • Temporarily disable blocking for that site
  • Use an incognito window to rule out extensions

Crashes at startup

Usually a damaged profile or an extension conflict. Try starting with extensions disabled, or reset browser settings (keeping bookmarks and passwords).

  • Start with all extensions disabled
  • Reset browser settings (personal data kept)
  • Check whether security software quarantined the install folder
  • Repair with the full installer

Crashes after a while

Related to memory build-up: too many tabs, a leaking extension, or insufficient system memory. Enable tab sleeping and trim extensions.

  • Enable tab sleeping
  • Close tabs you are not using
  • Disable extensions one by one to find the leak
  • Check system memory and virtual memory settings

FAQ

Do I lose unsaved work when it crashes?

On restart you are offered to restore pages and form content usually comes back; still, save important content as you go.

Should hardware acceleration be on or off?

On by default for better video and animation performance. If you see frequent rendering glitches or crashes, try turning it off.
